Tell us a bit more about your idea.
My idea is to open a store in Manchester's city centre, the store will be dedicated to bridging the gap between independent artists (i.e. bands, dj's, graphic artists and clothing designers) and the general public.
How will your idea make a difference to people’s lives?
The most difficult part of starting up as an artist is getting your work, no matter what it is, seen and appreciated by others. The store will be covered from wall to wall in designs and clothes made by artists who have yet to achieve mainstream success and will have an in-store playlist revolving around tracks by local and otherwise unsigned musical artists. Merchandise of artists on the playlist, including CD's, local gig tickets and possibly even clothing and branded accessories will be on sale with a fair amount of profit going to the artists to support them in their progress.
How long would it take to make your idea a reality?
The idea could realistically be up and running within 3-6 months, with time considered to put out applications for those wishing to be featured in store, to set up the actual shop with fittings and to take on and train staff.
Do you have any concerns with making your idea happen?
My primary concern is how I will create the initial appeal required to establish the necessary level of hype and customer interest. My thoughts on this are that by supporting independent artists this will in turn gain the store a reputation and anticipation before opening.
Why do you think you’re the right person to make this idea a success?
I have a lot of experience being in an unsigned group, and many of my friends are passionate about different areas of media. I know first hand how difficult it can be to reach new people and think my idea could honestly help a large amount of highly creative and talented people gain the success they deserve.
