A PDP course aimed to empower youths with skills to excel academically and as an integral part of the community
Top Tip...
It can be tempting to give as much detail as possible to sell your idea but sometimes too many words can be overwhelming. Win people over by making your idea easy to understand.
This two year AS Personal Development Course (PDP) aims to get students aged 16 to 19 thinking about something other than the lastest iphone! It's a course that has been expanded to equip students with the skills to survive in an increasingly demanding society.
Students are encouraged to participate in community events including charity bake sales, the NHS blood donation drive and interfaith events.
This course is a container for our idea - which is to go to Tanzania and help out in a huge school with 1400 students, entirely run on donations, and volunteers. With ideas and activities such as a science fair and careers day planned out, the 5-10 students of the AS PDP course hope to have a huge impact on the lives of these African children
The students of the course will in fact be having a beneficial impact on the lives of the Tanzanian students in the school which they will help out in. Along with helping out with the teaching aspects of the students lives, the students may also be able to bring what they've been taught in their own schools to the school in Tanzania to help the teachers plan new lessons which they may not have thought of before.
Not long at all; all that needs to be done is to buy resources to take, and to buy plane tickets. Accommodation and food etc have already been organised.
No
When I visited Tanzania in the summer, I actually decided to stay at the school for 10 days and help out there during my holiday. I saw how much of an effect just 1 person can have there, and realised that 5-10 students could have an overwhelming effect in the lives of these Tanzanian pupils. The fact that I know the area, the school and the admin/management of the school due to my visit makes me ideal in organising the group in volunteering there.
