HELP 100. BENEFIT 1000s. A mag + website that is made by youth, for youth + offers real industry training for many.
Top Tip...
It can be tempting to give as much detail as possible to sell your idea but sometimes too many words can be overwhelming. Win people over by making your idea easy to understand.
I represent a group of 100 young people that have worked on and created a magazine and website that has reached and benefited more than 100,000 people just like us. All photography, articles and styling etc. were done by us with the support of professional mentors.
In 2012 our project closes due to Government cuts. We want to continue working together to produce 1 physical print magazine next year that will be distributed all over the country, celebrating what it means to be a young person growing up in Britain today.
We would also like to theme this issue. For our generation, money is on everyones mind at the moment. How to make it, how to save it. We want to produce a special issue 'The Budget Issue' discussing these themes. Through articles on fun ideas to informative ones- From going on a £5 Date to living within you student loan, to asking "Does Money make you happy?"
It will make a huge difference to the people that will be directly involved. We learn real industry skills, get hands on work experience, and build our own picture of what it means to be young today. It's not only about learning new skills but also about working together.
It will also benefit the thousands of readers and society in general, by putting out a positive image of youth that is much needed.
We want to celebrate youth talent, talk about youth issues that really matter to us, and interact with our audience and provide opportunities for them to also get involved with the project.
Valuable experiences like these are diminishing, as are opportunities for young people in general. We can help inspire our peers to retain a positive outlook.
Within weeks of securing funds we would be up and running.
We have access to a safe and secure work space and computer equipment in a local community centre that will form the physical base for our project.
From there we would coordinate the contributors, both local and nationwide. We could have the printed magazine ready by Spring.
The only major concern about making our idea happen relates to funding, hence we are excited about this opportunity. We have a core team in place that will take the lead on the project and a large network that are looking for opportunities to learn and gather valuable experiences.
I’m ambitious, highly motivated, highly connected and experienced. I have been staff-writer/editor in a similar youth media project. I am tapped into my local community, and know a lot of young people who want to get involved in this.
I'm passionate about opportunities for youth. I've just graduated with a degree in Marketing and Advertising and I want to help and encourage others like me.
