It can be tempting to give as much detail as possible to sell your idea but sometimes too many words can be overwhelming. Win people over by making your idea easy to understand.
I am part of a youth initiaive called Nxt Gen and this idea is one of our projects we are working on.There are a variety of reasons why we have chosen to set up a fitness club. One of the more crucial reasons, perhaps, is that it will be beneficial for tackling diversity within the local community and everyone related.
Within our community, there have been many reports of racial activities and people suffering abuse. This is why we want to set up a fitness club: so that we can build better relationships with people of different ethnic origins. These incidents are a direct result of our community and youth being deprived of any social activities.
Through this fitness club, we aim to provide a service for the young people in attempt to put an end to the racial hatred between communities and people within the local community. This will also help us achieve another aim: get the young people networking with other young from different communities.
Alongside the benefits for the community, we aim to help each young individual to gain a good health and fitness by providing them with education linked with health and fitness so they can benefit from the fitness club. As well as physical health and fitness, we aim to develop a good mental health and a better mentality.
The fitness club will provide a means of getting energy and anger out for the young people. It will provide a service so the youths can use their energy on something positive rather than fighting outside. The fitness club will also bring a variety of sports in to the community rather than one popular sport. i.e. football.
There are many people, organisations and communities which we hope to get involved with this project.
For educational purposes, we hope to get local colleges/schools and the NHS involved. The reason for this is that colleges/schools and the NHS can provide education on important aspects to health and fitness such as drug awareness, sex education, why it’s important to keep fit, disease development etc.
We also hope to use schools/colleges as a way of promoting the fitness club and providing taster sessions. We would like to get the students involved with our fitness club. We would also like to maintain our relationship with the NHS for future projects such as workshops and conventions
We would also like the local youth clubs to get involved with our project so that they can also provide their own services to the young people who will be attending our fitness club. So this will enable our youths to interact with the youth of different youth clubs.
The most crucial partnership we would like to develop is one between the local community and the fitness club. It is essential to have a good relationship with the local people as we hope to get their support with this project and for them to get involved.
These are our aims and objectives. this outlines how it will make a difference to people's lives
1. Stay fit & healthy – kids do a lot of exercise.
2. To keep young people out of trouble by providing them with something to do rather than them doing something bad.
3. Provide a means of getting the energy/ anger out - instead of fighting outside use the energy for something good in use.
4. Socialise.
5. Build Instructor/youth relationship.
6. Health & fitness education.
7. Different sport available. we found that although football may be the most popular sport there are, in fact, a lot of people who don't. We hope to provide a means of accessing other sports.
8. Young people networking.
9. Provide a service / place for interracial activities to take place.
10. Working towards a common interest rather than bickering on differences
One of the major outcomes we hope to bring about would be the development of community cohesion within ethnic and non ethnic communities. We would like to tackle racial hatred and introduce the idea of racial friendship where it would not bee deemed to be absurd to socialise with people from different racial groups.
Another outcome is the development of a good health and fitness regime within the community. Research suggests that within our local community, fitness activities are necessary. Therefore we want to provide the young people with opportunities for sporting activities.
Within the community, there are not many positive figures to which the young people feel they can approach for advice and consultation. Through the fitness club we hope to see a development in relationships between members of staff, young people, and fitness instructors, intern creating positive role models.
Research shows that young people form ethnic communities like us, there is a lacking in support. Through this fitness club we hope to be a local base of support. The outcome we want to see through this is the development of support from families and community members. We aim to encourage the young people to aim for the better aspects of life and to be the best they can be. We hope to create higher aspirations for all young people.
we are already working on setting up the project. The project will be set up early 2012, or perhaps mid 2012 at the lates.
We are very confident that this project will be a success. Our research shows that this would be an extremely beneficial addition to our community so there are no concerns.
We have plenty of experience in setting up projects as we have done so in the past. Also we have support from many local stakeholders such as the council, the community, other youth forums, a fitness gym whom we hope to netwrok with etc. Also this idea is one that many people are already interested in so i strongly believe that it is possible to make this a success.
